Concept/Issue The focus of the article is power. Power determines where the strategy of the CEO will be implemented or not or whose initiative will carry the day. Also, power determines how managers allocate tasks, which company will win the most rewarding contracts, the entrepreneur who is funded, whether the board will accept suggests of the CEO. These issues are addressed when the concept of power is put into consideration. Power to the organization is like oxygen is to breathing, meaning it is important because it motivates people, shapes social interaction, and drives outcomes. Empirical evidence suggests that, to a large part, the outcomes within an organization are determined by power. The balance of power encourages or diminishes the ability of teams to perform. Given the role of power in determining organizational outcomes, it has attracted the attention of scholars.
